On Tuesday, 31 January, it became official that we have signed Danish youth international striker Nikolai Baden Frederiksen from Dutch top-flight side Vitesse, meaning that after Mats Knoester, Frerencvaros once again signed a player from the Eredivisie.
Introduction
Nikolai Baden Frederiksen was born on 18 May 2000 in Odense, Denmark. The 22-year-old striker joined FCN Youth from Naesby BK U19 in 2015, followed by Nordsjaell U19 in January 2017. In the summer of 2018, Frederiksen made the big switch to Juventus U19, and soon afterwards found himself in the Italian starlet's second team, where he scored four times in 15 games.
In January 2020, Torino loaned the young striker to Dutch side Fortuna Sittard, followed by another loan spell at Austrian side WSG Tirol, where he made his mark, scoring 18 goals and four assists in 32 appearances, which put him second in the Austrian Bundesliga scoring charts, ahead of big names such as Karim Adeyemi, now with Borussia Dortmund, and Patson Daka, who played for Leicester City in England.
After a great season in Austria, Juventus sold Frederiken to Dutch Premier League side Vitesse in July 2021. In his first season, he scored 11 times in 44 appearances including all matches and made three assists, while he scored two goals in his current season.
The center forward also played for his country's youth national teams from U16 to U21. In total he has worn the Danish national jersey 34 times and has found the back of the net 11 times. At the 2021 European U21 Championship, hosted by Hungary and Slovenia, he won his group ahead of France, Russia and Iceland, before losing on penalties to eventual winners Germany in the quarter-finals.
