After the away UEL victory over AS Monaco, our defending champions and cup winners started their MOL Hungarian Cup campaign on Sunday 18 September. Our first opponent was Bicskei TC from the Western Group of NB III. Head coach Stanislav Cherchesov sent to the pitch the starting line-up of Bogdán - Wingo, S. Mmaee, Vécsei, Sigér - Esiti, Gojak - Mercier, Auzqui, Marquinhos - Boli. Interestingly, we also met Bicske in the Cup on 14 November 2020, when we managed to win 5-0 with a hat trick from Roko Baturina and goals from Michal Skvarka and Franck Boli.
First half
The match started in extremely bad weather, with wind and rain, but this didn't bother the large crowd, who filled both the home and away sections. We had to wait until the 10th minute for our first chance, when Mercier launched Boli, who passed to Marquinhos, who then shot over. Our side continued to control the game, but the home defence closed down well.
In the 24th minute we got a free kick from a good position. Mercier's shot was saved by the son of Lajos Szűcs, our former two-time Hungarian goalkeeper, and the rebound was cleared. Six minutes later, Gojak's header from Wingo went just wide. We then had another free kick, about 20 meters from the Bicske goal. Mercier got behind the ball and his low shot was wide of the target. Towards half-time, Esiti tried a shot, but his rebound went over. In extra time, we had a free kick from just 16 metres out. Amer Gojak got behind the ball and his shot found its way into the net, giving our Bosnian international his first goal for his team.
Second half
One substitution at the break, Samy Mmaee was replaced by Mats Knoester. In the 48th minute Boli tried a long range effort but the goalkeeper saved. In the 57th minute, Boli crossed well to Wingo, whose close range shot was saved by the home keeper. Kristoffer Zachariassen then came on to substitute Mercier. In the 64th minute, Sóron shot at Ádám Bogdán's goal but the attempt went over. Six minutes later Gojak was fouled 25 meters from goal. The victim crossed the ball into the middle but Vécsei's header found the keeper. More substitutions followed, with Boli being replaced by Ryan Mmaee and Auzqui by Giorgi Kharaishvili. Shortly afterwards, Lencsés' shot went inches wide of the left post, and at the other end, Sigér's attempt was saved by Szűcs. In the 82nd minute, Zachariassen fired over.
In the 86th minute, Bálint Vécsei scored a neat goal from close range, from a corner, to give us a 2-0 win at home to Bicske!
