After the winter pre-season, our 34-time champion men's football team started the spring season of the OTP Bank League in Kisvárda. Head coach Dejan Stankovic voted for the starting line-up of Dibusz - Makreckis, Wingo, Aaneba, Ramírez - Maiga, Loncar - Zachariassen, Abu Fani, Marquinhos - Pesics.
First half
Our team took the kick-off, with the sides alternating possession in the first few minutes. We then found the front of the net on several occasions, and in the eighth minute Marquinhos was given a great start but was unable to score. Three minutes later, our Brazilian legionnaire won a free kick. Abu Fani got in behind the ball, his attempt was blocked and Ramírez fired the rebound into the net, missing the target by inches. In the 17th minute, Loncar received a ball from the left wing but fired wide of the right post from around the five-meter box. Shortly afterwards Marquinhos dribbled in and aimed for the top left, his curling effort flew dangerously wide of the post. In the 27th minute, Marquinhos again faltered on the edge of the box, passed to Pesic, our striker shot from the penalty spot but over the bar. Nine minutes to the end of first half, we again led a promising attack, Marquinhos passed to Pesics and then to Zachariassen, but his shot was blocked by the opposing defenders. In the 40th minute, the home side got into the game, Camaj was on target but Dénes Dibusz made a confident save. Two minutes later, we took the lead: Abu Fani won the ball in midfield, got as far as the opponent's penalty area and stuck a powerful goal into Kisvárda's goal (0-1). In the 44th minute we almost doubled our lead, Ramírez shot from after a corner, but his rocket missed the target. In the last minute of the period, the home side created two chances but failed to score from either of them. In extra time, Pesic had a chance to attack but his shot was saved by Petkovic and we went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Second half
After the break, the home side had their first real chance, but Dénes Dibusz saved and Abu Fani headed the ball off the goal line. In the first minutes, the home team controlled the game and briefly pushed our team in front of our goal, but we were able to respond quickly, and at the end of an attack, Loncar shot first on goal which hit the goalpost, but the rebound was already in the net (0-2). Six minutes later, the home side added to their tally, with Mesanovic heading home from a corner (1-2). The next goal was not long in coming, with Aleksandar Pesic scoring in the 69th minute to make it two goals difference again (1-3). In the 72nd minute, Loncar came off and was replaced by debutant Kodro. In the 78th minute Dejan Stankovic was substituted again, Pesic was replaced by Varga Barnabas and Abu Fani by Katona. Young Alex Tóth and newcomer Edgar Sevikian were also involved in the extra minutes. In extra time the sides continued to battle, but no further goals were scored, so we started the spring with a win in the league and are safely at the top of the NB I table until the Paks game.
