WE STARTED THE GROUP STAGE WITH A WONDERFUL VICTORY!
With a double from Tokmac and a goal from Traoré, Ferencváros beat Trabzonsport even with a man down.

Our defending Hungarian champions and cup-winning men's football team followed up a stunning 6-0 knock-out of Újpest with a UEFA Europa League opener against Turkish champions Trabzonspor at the Ferencváros Stadion. In the Group H encounter, head coach Stanislav Cherchesov fielded a starting line-up of Dibusz - Wingo, Knoester, S. Mmaee, Civic - Besic, Vécsei - Traoré, Tokmac, Zachariassen - Boli.

First half

In the first minutes the Turkish team had more possession and the first opportunity was theirs, Bakasetas shot but Dibusz saved. After Trabzonspor's shot, we took the initiative and in the sixth minute we took the lead through Tokmac's goal after Vécsei's dream pass (1-0).

In the 11th minute, the goal scorer launched Boli, who ran towards the goal in the grasp of two defenders, but one of the Turkish defenders pulled down our Ivorian striker, but the Italian referee's whistle remained silent. In the 16th minute the referee sent off Civic. Our professional staff reacted immediately, Pászka and Botka went off to warm up, the latter eventually replacing Boli.

In the 24th minute, Bakasetas was on target from outside the penalty area, but Dibusz made a superb save to keep out a shot into the bottom left corner, and a minute later Maxi made a great save from Gómez's close range effort to keep the one-goal Fradi lead. Moments later, our captain was again in the spotlight, this time saving Maxi Gómez's shot.

In the 27th minute, Zachariassen's tackle was followed by Besic's initial run with the ball and a pass to Tokmac, who scrambled down the left and shot into the middle after a set-piece, the Bosnian international was not able to get a good touch on the pass, but the lightning quick Adama Traore did, and the Malian striker curled a beautiful shot into the net (2-0). In the 39th minute, Maxi Gómez scored after a Turkish clearance (2-1).

The first half was not without excitement as Zachariassen's centre was handled by the visiting defender and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Tokmac stepped up, the goalkeeper leaned to his left, but Tokmac shot the ball to his right (3-1). We fought until the last seconds, but there were no more chances, and after an amazing first 45 minutes we went into the break with a 3-1 lead.

Second half

At the break Trabzonspor made three substitutions with Hamsík, Elmali and Yazici replacing Gbamin, Bardhi and Hugo.

As expected, after the turnaround the visitors switched to a higher gear, but our defence held firm. In the 53rd minute our team got into position, Wingo crossed the ball with his left foot, but it hit the top bar. A minute later, we attacked again, but Traoré's pass was millimetres longer than Tokmac could reach and the defence saved.

In the 61st minute, a nice right-wing cross was taken and targeted by Besic, but was blocked by the Turkish defence. Trabzonspor pushed their defence up and they started to attack in our side, but we defended heroically. In the 66th minute, after a well-executed counter-attack, Besic lifted the ball to Traoré, who shot right after a cool dribble, but Taha Tepe saved.

The visitors threatened again after our chance, but our Hungarian goalkeeper confidently dived to side-foot the ball away. In the 71st minute, Bozok, who came on as a substitute, scored a goal (3-2). Fifteen minutes before the end, we made two substitutions: Laidouni and Gojak replaced Vécsei, who scored a goal, and Tokmac, who scored a double.

In the 79th minute, Gojak, making his debut against Újpest, lobbed the ball and made a fine move to pass to Zachariassen, the Norwegian shot straight at goal but his attempt was blocked. With two minutes of normal time remaining, the Turkish champions looked to have equalised, but the video referee disallowed the goal for a foul.

In the final minute of normal time, Muhamed Besic, who had produced a stunning piece of fieldwork, left the pitch in applause from the stands and was replaced by Adnan Kovacevic. In extra time, Trabzonspor had a promising free-kick from a promising position, but the attempt was blocked by the defence wall.

There were no further chances in the match, and Ferencváros, playing from a man down, put up an amazing fight to start the UEFA Europa League group stage with a 3-2 win.
