Another attacking-minded footballer has been added to our 35-time champion men's football team squad after we signed Virgil Misidjan, aka Vura.
Ludogorec heyday, Bundesliga and Dutch top-flight experience
Virgil Roy Misidjan was born on 24 July 1993 in Goirle, the Netherlands. He started his football career in Tilburg with Willem II, where he played through the youth ranks until 2013. In his first senior season, he scored 6 goals in 14 games and helped his club to the top flight. In the Eredivise, he scored 4 goals in 34 matches, but was relegated from the first division with his club. He also played two games in the second division the following season, before moving on to Bulgarian side Ludogorec, who took him for €700,000. He featured for Razgrad between 2013 and 2018, including a double in the 2013-2014 Europa League group stage against Dutch side PSV Eindhoven. In the 2016-2017 Champions League play-offs, he also scored a double against Czech Republic's Viktoria Plzen, which helped the Bulgarian champions reach the main draw. He also scored in the Champions League group stage, giving his club a 1-0 lead in a 2-2 draw against Paris Saint-Germain.
With Ludogorets he won five league titles, one Bulgarian Cup and two Super Cups. In 206 games for the Bulgarians, the player nicknamed Vura, who has played on both wings, had 49 goals and 36 assists. In the summer of 2018, German Bundesliga side Nuremberg saw fantasy in him, and decided to transfer him for €3 million. Misidjan was unsuccessful there, scoring just one goal and dropping out of the top flight. The winger returned to the Netherlands, first with Zwolle and then for two seasons with Twente. He scored 14 goals in 73 appearances for the latter club before accepting an offer from Saudi Arabia's Al-Tai, the club from which he joined Ferencváros. The 31 year old has scored 4 goals and 3 assists in 30 appearances for the club, which is leaving the Saudi top flight. Valued at €2.3 million by Transfermarkt, Misidjan made his debut for Suriname earlier this year and has featured in three matches so far. Vura was previously wanted by the Bulgarian national team.
"With the departure of Marquinhos, we were keen to bring in a player who could help us immediately on the left wing. We believe that Virgil meets this criterion, both in terms of his style of play and his vast experience. He is a goal scoring player who can create situations for his teammates and himself. He has proven this over the years. The aim was to sign a player who could integrate immediately. He has played abroad before, he has a lot of experience, so we are confident that his qualities will help the team very soon" said Tamás Hajnal, our sporting director, about Misidjan's transfer.
We welcome Virgil Misidjan to our club and wish him a career full of success and goals at Fradi!
