On Thursday, 1 June, Ferencvárosi Torna Club signed the top scorer player of the 2022/23 season of the Hungarian football championship, Barnabás Varga, who also made his debut in the Hungarian men's national football team, and received the Player of the season award at the RangAdó gala.
Introduction
Varga Barnabás was born on 25 October 1994 in Szombathely. Here he got acquainted with the basics of football, and then he joined Haladás's youth team. He made it all the way to the U17 team, from where he transferred to Eberau in Austria in 2010. He spent six years with the Burgenland side before moving on to Mattersburg (Nagymarton), also in Austria.
In his first season in Mattersburg, he had one goal and one assist in 473 minutes in 11 games. He then featured for the club's second team before finally joining Lafnitz in 2019. He spent one year with the Styrian club, during which time he registered 12 goals and 5 assists in 30 games.
In the winter of 2019, he returned to Hungary, where he joined NB II side Gyirmót. In his first full season with Győr, he scored 12 goals in 24 matches, playing an active role in the team's promotion to the NB I. He made 29 appearances for Gyirmót in the Hungarian top flight, scoring 13 goals and 6 assists.
He attracted attention for his outstanding performances, and was eventually transferred to Paks in the summer of 2022. He immediately became a key player in the Tolna County club. In the past season, he scored 26 goals and 2 assists in 31 league games, making him the top scorer of the NB I, and he was also awarded the best player of the season award at the RangAdó gala.
His outstanding performance was not without merit, as Hungarian men's national team captain Marco Rossi called him up for the squad to face Estonia and Bulgaria, and he also got 31 minutes in the 3-0 home European Championship qualifier against the latter on 27 March.
The goal-scoring striker is naturally in Marco Rossi's squad for the European qualifiers.
