Ferencávros men's football team has signed a winger from the Moldavian side Sheriff Tiraspol, Adama Traoré from Mali! Below we present our newest signing, who played in the 2021/2022 season in the BL group stage as well as in the UEL.
Career
Adama Traoré was born on 5 June 1995 in Bamako, the capital of Mali. He started his career at a local club, CO Bamako, before moving on to TP Mazembe in the Congo and then to Metz in France in 2018. Metz have loaned him out several times, with US Orléans in January 2019 and Saudi Arabia's FC Al-Adalah in the winter of 2020. He did not make his debut for Metz in the top flight, but he did get two opportunities in the second division and League Cup. He then left Metz for good in February 2021, leaving for Moldovan side Sheriff.
Twenty-time champions and ten-time cup winners Sheriff Tiraspol were joined by Adama Traoré, who was part of the team that won the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons. A key man for the Moldovan champions, who qualified for the UEFA Champions League qualifying round this season, Traoré scored four goals in qualifying and netted twice in the crucial play-off match against Dinamo Zagreb. In the group stage, he played only nine minutes in six games, yet scoring against Shakhtar Donetsk and Internazionale. As Sheriff finished third in their group behind Real Madrid and Inter, who have since reached the final, they were able to continue in the UEFA Europa League. Traoré scored in the first leg against Portuguese side Braga, but his side went down on penalties after a 2-2 aggregate draw.
Adama Traoré has multiplied his value thanks to his goals in international cups, currently valued at €3 million by the website Transfermarkt, considered an respected source on transfer matters. At Sheriff he played mostly as a right winger, but was also counted on as a withdrawn striker on a few occasions. As a farewell, he won the Moldavian Cup with Sheriff on Saturday night, starting for his former side in a 1-0 win.
Our newest signing is also a member of the Mali national team, having made 41 appearances since 2017 and scoring 8 goals in those matches. In January this year, he also featured in the African Nations Cup, where he reached the last 16 with his team.
Interestingly, it was Tunisia, who had Aissa Laidouni in their team, who knocked Mali out of the World Cup in March.
