We've added a high-scoring striker to our 35-time men's football champions squad with the signing of the 185cm tall Brazilian striker Matheus Saldanha.
He has played in Japan, China, Azerbaijan and Serbia
Matheus Saldanha was born on 18 August 1999 in Uberaba, Brazil. He started playing football for Santos before joining Audax in 2016. In 2018 he joined the Bahia youth team. In 2020 he made his senior debut in the Brazilian Série A. Between 2020 and 2022 he scored three goals in 29 matches.
In 2021, he made his debut for Japanese second division side JEF United Chiba, scoring three times in 31 appearances as a loan player. In 2022, he scored one goal in 16 appearances as a player for the Japanese club. He was then loaned to Chinese top-flight side Chengdu Rongcheng, where he scored three times in 19 matches. In 2023, he was on loan at Azerbaijan's Neftci, scoring five times in 17 matches.
He was subsequently signed by Serbian side FK Partizan, where he made his debut with a goal in a 3-3 draw against Topolya. He was a great performer for Belgrade, scoring 17 goals in 27 games in the Serbian top flight to claim the title of joint top scorer for the 2023/24 season.
This season he has scored once in one league game and twice in two Champions League qualifiers.
- It's a significant day for the club because we have made a transfer of the highest value and we are very confident that this will be a successful transfer. Saldanha has proven to be a very goal-scoring, versatile player. He represents a completely different profile to our other two strikers. We know what a big task we have ahead of us and how many games we have to play, and the expectations are high. That is why we wanted to add another quality player to the striker position. We believe that both his age and his style of play, his abilities, he can help the team a lot in the future, so that we can reach our goal together. We are very happy that we have managed to make this transfer, which, to be honest, was not very realistic at the beginning of the summer," said our sporting director Tamás Hajnal about Saldanha's transfer.
We welcome Matheus Saldanha to our club! We wish him a season full of success and goals at Fradi!
