Defending Hungarian champions and winners of the Hungarian Cup and UEL Groups, Ferencváros men's football team followed up their 3-2 win over Paks on Wednesday with a 2-0 victory over Budapest Honvéd in the final match of the fall season. Stanislav Cherchesov fielded a starting line-up of Dibusz - Wingo, Botka, Kovacevic - Besic, Gojak, Zachariassen - Marquinhos, Tokmac, Traoré.
First half
Our team had the first chance of the match, Marquinhos received a great ball and tried to flick the ball over Szappanos, but it got stuck in the keeper. In the 13th minute, Traoré headed into the home goal, but the referee indicated that the incident was being investigated by VAR. After reviewing the goal, the referee ruled that an offside had preceded the goal and the score remained 0-0.
In the 22nd minute, Honvéd threatened first after a free kick from the left, but Dibusz saved the header. The rest of the match was dominated by the home team, with Kispest only getting the ball occasionally. In the 33rd minute, Honvéd made a substitution: Keresztes came on for Doka. Five minutes later, we were in position after Pászka's cross, but we missed Szappanos' goal.
Two minutes before the end of the first half, Zsótér aimed a free-kick from the short side, but nobody could reach the ball and Dibusz easily saved it. In the five-minute extra time our team still threatened, but Tokmac's header was not accurate, so we went into the break 0-0.
Second half
We started the second half where we left off the first: dominating the game, while Honvéd were stuck in front of their own goal. In the 48th minute it looked like we were going to take the lead, Marquinhos scored but from offside. Two minutes later Gojak crossed the ball to the sprinting Wingo, but the defence saved.
We broke the ice in the 52nd minute when Gojak's corner was headed into the net by Traoré (0-1). Moments later, Honvéd were inches away from a quick reply, but their header missed Dibusz's goal. In the 67th minute, the home side had two serious chances, but first the Hungarian goalkeeper saved a shot under the crossbar and then Zsótér's shot missed the long bottom corner.
Ten minutes before the end of normal time, Auzqui on the right saw Tokmac coming down the middle, but the Norwegian striker's shot was saved by Szappanos with his head. In the 85th minute, we came close to wrapping up the game with another goal, but Tokmac's header was disallowed for hand ball.
However, we did achieve another valid goal in the last minute of the four-minute extra time when Carlos Auzqui was able to score from the counter-attack, to end the game (0-2).
Autumn champions Ferencváros ended the year with a win in a close match, and can now enjoy the winter at the top of the table with an eight-point lead.
