After a 1-0 home win, our 35-time Hungarian men's football champions played away to Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Europa League play-off round for proceeding to the last eight. Our head coach Robbie Keane has given his backing to the starting line-up of Grof - Makreckis, Gartenmann, Cissé, Ramírez - Abu Fani, Júlio Romao, Rommens - Zachariassen, Civic - Saldanha for the return leg.
First half
Our team in the gold jersey had the first chance, in the fifth minute Abu Fani's shot was missed, while at the other end Cerv's shot was cleared. Saldanha's curling effort in the 12th minute went wide. Six minutes later, a pass from the Brazilian striker to Zachariassen could have been a chance, but the home defence cleared at the last minute. Then, Kalvach's powerful shot went through the middle, Grof saved and Plzen were able to threaten from the rebound. Moments later, Vydra's shot was again saved by the goalkeeper.
But in the 27th minute Gróf could not help either, after a corner Durosinmi rose highest, which was saved by our goalkeeper, but after the rebound the Nigerian was the quickest to react and Plzen took the lead (1-0). After the goal, Sulc was left all alone in the 35th minute, with Gróf having no chance, and the Czechs were through (2-0), and then another home goal, this time from Durosinmi (3-0), and the teams went into the break with a disappointing 3-0 lead.
Second half
Robbie Keane made two substitutions at the break: Tosin Kehinde and Adama Traoré came on for Ramírez and Júlio Romao.
In the 51st minute, Traoré's first attempt was blocked by the defence, and then the replay was on target, but the shot was no trouble for Jedlicka. Shortly afterwards Aleksandar Pesic came on for Zachariassen, our Serbian striker quickly got into position after Makreckis' cross but his header went wide and in the 67th minute Grof had to make a great save. Tóth Alex and Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane also came on for the end of the match. In the second half we did our best to make things right, but still we were not able to score.
Despite winning 1-0 in the first leg, our team lost 3-0 today away to Viktoria Plzen of the Czech Republic in the UEFA Europa League playoff, stopping our dreams of advancement.
