Picturesque countryside, peaceful environment. Thirty-four times Hungarian champions, our men's football team started their second training camp in Austria, in Bramberg am Wildkogel, not far from Salzburg, in excellent conditions.
After arriving on Monday, our team played its first training match on Tuesday evening in Kirchdorf, about an hour's drive from the Bramberg accommodation. Our opponents were the Azerbaijani champions Qarabag, already known from last year's Champions League qualifiers.
Head coach Stanislav Cherchesov sent FTC out with the line-up of Varga Ádám - Kaján Norbert, Ibrahim Cissé, Mats Knoester, Eldar Civic - Amer Gojak, Kristoffer Zachariassen, Anderson Esiti - Katona Bálint, Tosin Kehinde - Varga Barnabás.
The match did not start well for us, as in the 6th minute, after a left wing attack, Nariman Akhunzade acrobatically shot the ball into the goal. Varga could only touch the ball, not block it. 0-1!
Only a few minutes later, the goalkeeper, returning from silver medallist Kecskemét, showed two great moves. The other Varga, Barnabás was also very active. In the European Championship qualifier against Lithuania, our striker, who scored the first national team goal of his career, was repeatedly sought by his teammates.
And our new signing showed his greatest strength in the 16th minute - his header! Gojak's left-wing free-kick rose to his feet and he headed powerfully into the bottom left corner. 1-1!
Fradi's game was on the up at this point! In the 22nd minute, Civic raced down the left, but Zachariassen couldn't handle his accurate cross and Kaján fired the ball over.
In the 30th and 32nd minutes, two dangerous Azeri chances were registered, but neither the header nor the long-range shot found our goal. Three minutes later Qarabag came very close to scoring, but luckily for us Toral Bajramov's header hit the post and the rebound was quickly cleared by our defenders.
Unfortunately, the slight advantage in the field resulted in another goal. In the 39th minute, Akhundzade scored again after another left-wing cross. 1-2!
The Azeris could not celebrate for long, as in the 42nd minute another masterful ball from Gojak saw Kehinde run in behind the defence. Our player was quicker than his defender, and he beat Shahrudin Mahammadaliev, who burst out of his goal, and rolled into the empty net. 2-2!
The half ended with a promising but saved shot by Katona, and the teams went into the break with a 2-2 draw.
In the second half, Varga, who made his debut with a goal, was replaced by Roko Baturina. Qarabag had the first dangerous chance, but in the 48th minute a sharp centre from the right was cleared inside the penalty area.
In the 51st minute, Varga produced another bravura save from a shot from close range. Our goalkeeper palmed the ball away from the bottom right corner. Two minutes later, a free-kick from us was met by Baturina, but the Croatian striker failed to hit the ball well.
Unfortunately, what was missed at one end turned into a goal at the other. In the 58th minute Andrade headed towards the Fradi goal, as we didn't attack, the Portuguese stuck a big goal into the bottom right corner. 2-3!
In the 60th minute, Civic threatened from a free kick, his shot went under the Azeri's legs and Mahammadaliev had to make a great save. A few minutes later his replacement Amin Ramazanov also made a great save after Traoré offered him a powerful shot.
In the 74th minute, Lisztes also tested the Azeri goalkeeper, but his powerful, flat effort went wide of the target and Ramazanov saved. Four minutes later, the goalkeeper had to use all his skills to clear Paszka's free-kick.
But in the 86th minute, the goalkeeper was no match for Endre Botka. Our national team defender played with Péter Baráth inside the penalty area and fired the ball back into the goal with great power. 3-3!
In fact! A minute later Loncar shot very well, but his attempt bounced off the left post and back into the box.
There were no more goals in the injury time, and FTC played out a 3-3 draw with Qarabag in a goal-filled, exciting match.
The training camp continues and on Friday, 30 June at 18.00 we play against the Austrian star team Red Bull Salzburg.
