After the draw against MTK, our thirty-five time Hungarian men's football champions visited Zalaegerszeg in the fifth round of the OTP Bank League to make up for the match they missed in the fall. In his second league game of the year, Robbie Keane started with the line-up of Varga Ádám - Kaján, Cissé, Gartenmann, Civic - Abu Fani, Rommens - Traoré, Tóth, Ben Romdhane - Varga Barnabás.
First half
Our team started the match better, taking the initiative right from the kick-off, and made several attempts on the home goal, with Gundel-Takács saving Ben Romdhane's effort in the third minute. Despite the good start, the lead went to the opponents, in the seventh minute Dénes took the lead after a right wing attack (1-0).
The goal did not discourage our players, who kept on attacking, and in the 15th minute Ben Romdhane's headed ball was equalised by Barnabás Varga (1-1). Eight minutes later, a corner bounced to Traoré, who shot from the corner of the penalty area to the bottom right corner, but the ZTE defenders blocked the shot. In the 25th minute, our national striker doubled his tally, Ben Romdhane again set up the ball at the end of a left-wing attack, and Barnabás Varga, who came through the middle, put the ball into the net (1-2).
Five minutes later, Abu Fani's long-range shot was saved by Gundel-Takács, but despite our constant attacks, the visitors equalised, with Dénes scoring again in the 33rd minute (2-2). In extra time, Barnabás Varga came close to a hat trick, but his header from Kaján's centre was just wide of the right post.
Second half
After the break Zalaegerszeg threatened first, Mim's shot into the bottom right corner was saved by Ádám Varga. Shortly afterwards Nyíri tried a long range effort, but his attempt missed the target by a good margin. In the 53rd minute, Kaján crossed for Ben Romdhane, who was left empty-handed, but the Tunisian international fired over the goal. Six minutes later, Barnabás Varga was in position but his shot bounced off the post.
In the second half, we tried to bring fresh energy into the team with substitutions, with Kehinde, Gruber and Joseph also coming on. We constantly attacked the Zalaegerszeg defence, but the last passes and passes were not executed flawlessly. In the 87th minute, Tóth and Gruber played well together, but ZTE's back line saved and we were able to take a corner kick. We didn't stop for a moment, we did our best to get the winning goal - just like the last time we were away at the ZTE Arena, when Ben Romdhane scored in the 90+8th minute.
We went ahead in the two minutes of extra time, but couldn't get the goal that would have earned us the three points. Although we drew 2-2, we moved back to the top of the table and one point ahead of Puskás Akadémia, who we will encounter in the next round of the league on Sunday 9 February.
