Újpest - Ferencváros 0-5
Barnabás Varga and Aleksandar Pesic both contributed with doubles to our 5-0 victory.

In the 240th derby, our 34-time champion men's football team faced their ancient rivals Újpest, this time at the Szusza Ferenc Stadium. It was clear before the game that we could not advance to the first place, as Paks won 1-0 in Kisvárda, but we did not want to fall behind, even if we had played one game less than the team from Paks.

In addition, reaching a more than 100-year streak was at stake in today's derby, as our football team won 15 consecutive games against the purple and white between 1905 and 1916 and now we had the chance to reach this. Our Serbian head coach, after Thursday's Conference League defeat against Olympiacos, fielded the following team for the derby: Dibusz - Wingo, Botka, Cissé, Ramírez - Maiga, Loncar - Zachariassen, Ben Romdhane, Katona - Varga B. Újpest took a point against us five years ago for the last time, and we wanted to keep that streak alive.

First half

Our team started the derby rather confused. First Dibusz passed an easy ball to a corner, then Ramírez and Cissé misunderstood each other, our Ecuadorian defender finally tried to free the ball and kicked the Frenchman in the head by accident, and the ball almost rolled into the bottom left corner. From the corner, Mörschel headed over. In the 10th minute left back Pauljevic tested Dibusz with a long range shot, our goalkeeper knocked the ball to the right. In the 14th minute we had our first chance, a cross from the right by Botka was headed into the hands of Banai by Barnabás Varga. For long minutes there was not much excitement in the game, and in the 27th minute Keita's weak long range effort was played in by Pauljevics, who floated the ball in the air and bombed well over. At the other end, Loncar's free-kick from the corner moved Banai in front of goal. There was a lot of stoppage time at this stage, with many small fouls. In the 36th minute, Dibusz kicked the ball up, which was first slipped by Barnabas Varga, then the ball was retrieved by Katona and he marched to the goal and shot into the bottom left corner (0-1). After the goal, the game was a little bit stagnant, as green smoke filled the pitch. In the 45th minute, Barnabas Varga doubled our lead, Katona played in a low cross from almost the baseline, our striker arrived precisely and curled into the bottom right corner (0-2).

Second half

At the break, Géza Mészöly made three substitutions, with Simon, Sasere and Tajti replacing Fehér, Mack and Csoboth. The first situation belonged to the purple and white, in the 52nd minute Mörschel shot from the middle of the box with great power, but Dibusz got down on the ball and the corner was spoiled by the purple team. In the 57th minute our team flashed a shot, when Loncar broke inside the penalty area and missed with a left legged shoot. In the 62nd minute Dejan Stankovic also made three substitutions: Makreckis, Marquinhos and Abu Fani came on for Botka, Katona, who had two assists, and Ben Romdhane. In the 65th minute, a great left-wing move saw Marquinhos find the oncoming Stjepan Loncar on the long ball, who slotted home from the right (0-3). In the 72nd minute, Loncar almost doubled his tally, but his shot was blocked by Banai. In the 75th minute, Loncar got a yellow. In the 76th minute, our Bosnian player shone again, he had a great launch on Aleksandar Pesic, who had come on ten minutes earlier and shot from the right wing into the bottom right corner of the goal (0-4). Pesic warmed up clearly.. Loncar and our Serbian striker were able to drive the ball onto a defender and into the Újpest goal: the former unselfishly crossed to Pesics, who curled a beautiful shot into the goal (0-5). In the dying minutes, Abu Fani tried a long-range bomb, but Banai saved. The final score was 0-5. Our footballers continued their league campaign with a brilliant derby win.
