Ferencváros followed up their 2-1 defeat at Groupama Arena with Slovan Bratislava in the second leg of the second qualifying round of the Champions League. For the return leg in Bratislava, our head coach Stanislav Cherchesov fielded a starting line-up of Dibusz - Botka, S. Mmaee, Knoester, Civic - Laidouni, Esiti, Zachariassen - Tokmac, Boli, Traoré.
First half
The first minutes were dominated by our team, and after a left wing cross Botka tried to score from outside the penalty area, but our Hungarian defender missed the goal. In the 11th minute Slovan made an injury substitution: Medvedev was replaced by Green. In the 20th minute, after a well-paced cross from Civic, Boli made a great move out from behind the defender and fired a masterly shot inside the goal (0-1).
Two minutes later, Barseghyan took a sharp angle on goal but only hit the top bar, leaving Fradi with a one-goal lead. In the 28th minute, we threatened again from a corner kick, but Samy Mmaee's header was saved by the goalkeeper. Two minutes later, however, there was no stopping, Mmaee's shot, headed into the net by Zachariassen (0-2).
Towards the end of the first half, the home team tried to shift the rhythm without much luck, but despite the chances we failed to score another goal and went into the break with a 2-0 lead, 3-2 on aggregate.
Second half
We didn't have to wait long after the turnaround for the first shot from Ferencváros, after three minutes Traoré shot, but the goalkeeper saved. In the 58th minute, Boli beat his defender with a superb flick and then shot, but only hit the side netting. Halfway through the half, first a cross was saved by Chovan and then moments later Traoré's shot missed the goal.
Twenty minutes before the end of normal time, Slovan came up with a header from a corner by De Marco (1-2). After the goal, Slovan fought hard and tried to get another goal, but could not score. In the 75th minute, Kucka headed in from close range, but missed our goal.
As the game went further into the second half, our team had the upper hand, but could not score until the last minutes. But then came the 89th minute, and with it Adama Traoré, beautifully heading in Botka's cross from the right to restore the two-goal difference (1-3). Then, at the end of the three-minute extra time, Aissa Laidouni stepped up, presented the pass and fired a beautiful shot into the Slovan goal to end the game and set the final score at 4-1!
Ferencváros came back from a 2-1 defeat at home to Slovan, and played a stunning game in Bratislava to beat the Slovakian champions 4-1.
Ferencváros will now visit Qarabag of Azerbaijan in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.
