Our team had a very important match tonight in the UEFA Europa League Group Stage: Head Coach Rebrov’s team hosted Espanyol. In four matches we collected five points in Group H and with a win tonight we would have been very close to going through to the knock-out stage.
Ours did not want to leave anyone wonder if we wanted to win: we played with a very offensive lineup and sticked to the opponent’s box during the entire match. The dominance resulted in a leading goal by Sigér in the 23rd minute, great start just as it was in Spain earlier during the fall. Not much later the Spanish team equalized, basically out of the blue, with a nice individual attempt. In the second half Isael himself could have decided the game: he both had a rocketing shot hitting the crossbar and missed a penalty. However, he was brought down in the 90th minute inside the penalty area which resulted in another penalty. This time Skvarka stood behind the ball and he did not miss the opportunity: he placed it into the corner confidently. At this point we were only seconds away from winning the match, but in the last minute Espanyol equalized once more.
Despite the result, this has been a wonderful game and we still have good chance to go through as Ludogorets played 1-1 in Moscow. If we win against the Bulgarians in the next match, we are on pitch in UEL in the spring as well.
