"It doesn't matter who scores the goal, the main thing is to win and to be very focused in the first 15-20 minutes," said Brazilian striker Matheus Saldanha in a FradiMédia video on Wednesday night when asked about it, how he is looking forward to the UEL match against PAOK.
First half
Saldanha was right, the Greeks were attacking us from the first minutes, so we built up our attack carefully and with small passes. In the 2nd minute, after a nice all-round play, Gruber broke in from the right, but his shot was saved by Kotarski, and three minutes later Ramírez also tried to score but with little success. In the 8th minute, a big mistake by Ramírez allowed Zsivkovics to break through on goal, he crossed to the centre where Brandon arrived but slid in and could only miss the target. Taison, on the other hand... The Brazilian midfielder, in the 10th minute, finished a pass from Konstantelias, who was on the run, into the bottom right corner from 17 metres. 1-0!
Saldanha felt the need to change rhythm. He made a couple of promising runs down the left, and one of his crosses was just scooped away from Gruber in the middle. PAOK took control of the game, possessed the ball more, but failed to create any chances. Then Zhivkovic took a free kick from the right corner of the penalty area, which he passed powerfully and flatly into the middle, where Brandon arrived and shot into the goal from close range. 2-0!
Offensively we couldn't break the Greek gate, in the final moments we either misplaced the pass or there was always an intervening home leg. Our best chance came in the 45th minute, when Saldanha beat his defender on the right, and even beat a PAOK player inside the penalty area, but his shot rattled the top bar and Traoré flicked the rebound over. That was the end of the first half with a big chance for Ferencváros.
Second half
Pascal Jansen made a substitution at the break, sending on Kristoffer Zachariassen for Rommens. Our head coach also changed the tactical line-up, moving Makreckis up a line, so we continued with three defenders.
In the 48th minute, Abu Fani's free-kick from the right found Saldanha again in the middle, but our Brazilian striker slid a shot wide of the goal. The rest of the game was mostly in the box, and in the 65th minute Konstantelias had a chance but missed the bottom right corner from 11 meter.
Pascal Jansen made further substitutions in an attempt to inject some impetus into the team's play. Virgil Misidjan and Kady Borges came on and the latter had a promising shot but it missed the target. Not so in the 68th minute with Csalov's shot.
The Russian attempted from inside the penalty area, but Dibusz saved with with his legs. Our Hungarian goalkeeper had to be alert in the 75th minute for another shot by Konsztanteliasz.
But in the 76th minute, he could do nothing after the Greeks outmuscled the Fradi defence and Csalov shot into the empty goal. 3-0! In the 79th minute, substitute Raul Gustavo kicked Deszpodov inside the penalty area and the penalty awarded was headed into the net by captain Zhivkovic (4-0)! In the last minute of normal time, PAOK scored another goal, Despodov scored after a nice combination (5-0).
Our men's football team will play their last match of the autumn half of the 2024/25 season on Sunday, 15 December, as guests of Nyíregyháza.
