Following three consecutive championship titles and participating in the Champions League in the previous season, Peter Stöger arrived to FTC this summer to take over the head coach position. Previously, the 55-year old Austrian trainer led Borussia Dortmund to the group stage of the Champions League, achieved great results with Köln first in the second league, then directly in the first season finished 5th, reaching this way the group stage of the Europa League. He previously won Austrian Champion and Cup titles as well.
With Peter Stöger’s directions, our men’s football team played successfully on the international field, and qualified for the 32-team group stage of Europa League, including a win over Slavia Praha in the qualifiers. In a very strong group, we finished fourth after Bayer Leverkusen, Real Betis and Celtic but in the last round we defeated the group-winner Leverkusen. For a long time, our team stood first in the league as well, and currently stays second with one less match played.
In this weekend’s round, Csaba Máté will be the acting head coach and he continues the training sessions until the arrival of the new head coach. FTC aims to appoint the next head coach as soon as possible.
FTC is grateful for the work that Peter Stöger and his two assistants, Gerhard Fellner and Alexander Bade accomplished, and wish each one of them successful continuation in their coaching careers.
