Our defending Hungarian champions and UEL top-flight men's football team has been further strengthened with the signing of 24-year-old Hungarian centre-back Gábor Szalai.
Introduction
Gábor Szalai was born on 9 June 2000 in Kecskemét. He started playing football there, and in 2010 he became a certified footballer of Kecskemét's youth team. He played in the club's academy, and in the 2019/20 season he made his debut in a MOL Hungarian Cup match for the adults. In the 2020/21 season, he played in the NB III division side, and a year later he was already playing in the second division, and was also a member of the Kecskemét team that won promotion to the top flight.
In his first NB I season he played 29 matches, scoring three times. He also scored against Puskás Akadémia, Paks and Ferencváros, and celebrated a historic silver medal at the end of the season. In the first half of the 2023/24 season, he played in 15 matches, scoring four times. Halfway through the season, in January 2024, he moved to Lausanne-Sport in Switzerland, where he played 14 league games. This season, he has two league games and one cup game to his name.
