"Our 5-0 win and the artificial turf is no excuse, we have to win," said head coach Pascal Jansen at the press conference ahead of the Champions League second leg against The New Saints.
The Dutchman made this clear when he named his starting line-up. The starting eleven for the home game has been changed in only one place. Marquinhos, who did not travel to England, was replaced by Tosin Kehinde.
1st half
We started well, with Adama Traoré, who scored a hat trick at the Groupama Arena, finding Roberts in the goal in the 2nd minute, but his shot was saved by the goalkeeper. The New Saints then had their moments, but our defence with Cisse and Raul Gustavo in the middle held firm with several blocked shots.
We kept trying to get behind the home defence and when we couldn't, we threatened with crosses. First Makreckis shot just wide in the 25th minute, and a few minutes later Traoré was in a great position, but he hit the side netting from a sharp angle from about 8 metres.
In the 39th minute, Rommens' right-wing free-kick curled dangerously into the centre, where Raul Gustavo just missed the ball. The sustained pressure paid off. In the 43rd minute, Zachariassen received a great ball, the home defenders moved out of position and our Norwegian midfielder was not on offside, and with a beautiful move he lifted the ball over Roberts who was running out of his goal (0-1)!
2nd half
The second half started sleepily, but things picked up in the 60th minute. Traoré received a great ball, broke through the defenders into the penalty area where Baker was brought down and a penalty was awarded. Rommens got in behind the ball and calmly curled into the left side of the goal for his first goal for Ferencváros (0-2).The goal was followed by substitutions on both sides. Zsombor Gruber was among those who came on for Fradi, in his first competitive match for the team. Dibusz had two important and confident blocks. The New Saints did not remain without goals either, as Daniels scored in the last minute of extra time. Our team thus qualified for the third round of Champions League qualifying with a confident 7-1 aggregate score. Our opponents will be revealed on Wednesday evening.
