After a 3-1 away win against Paks, our defending Hungarian champions, cup and UEL group winners hosted Újpest at the Groupama Arena in their first home derby of the season. Stanislav Cherchesov voted for the starting line-up of Dibusz - Botka, S. Mmaee, Knoester, Civic - Esiti, Besic - Traoré, Tokmac, Zachariassen - R. Mmaee. The squad also included Owusu Kwabena, who scored his first goal in his first game against Paks, as well as another new signing, Nikolai Baden Frederiksen, and Myenty Abena, who made his debut against ZTE.
First half
We got off to a great start, as Knoester could have given us the lead in the second minute, but the Dutch defender's header was cleverly pushed over the bar by Nikolics. The first ten minutes were dominated by our team, with the visitors only occasionally crossing the halfway line after a couple of clearances.
In the 14th minute, Ryan Mmaee passed to Tokmac, but the Norwegian striker could not take the ball and it fell to Nikolics. In the 20th minute, Újpest had their first chance, but Katona's shot was saved by Dibusz. In the 27th minute, the away team had a promising free kick from a promising position, but Antonov's effort was easily saved by our team captain.
In the 36th minute Tokmac was left on the ground, the professional staff took no risks and Marquinhos came on to substitute him. Moments later, Marquinhos played himself clear, the Brazilian's shot was saved by the defender, who also fooled the goalkeeper and the ball ended up in the net (1-0).
Second half
After half time, Újpest had the first chances, but Csongvai's bouncing shot was saved by Dibusz, and moments later, the Hungarian goalkeeper saved again. In the 55th minute, Mudrinszki equalised after a counterattack (1-1). In the 68th minute, the ball was served to Zachariassen, who shot with his left foot but missed the target from close.
Two minutes later, Zachariassen shot into the front of the goal, where Marquinhos came and shot between the goalkeeper's legs (2-1). In the 73rd minute, a rebounded shot was put into the goal by Újpest, but the referee disallowed the shot for offside, leaving the score 2-1. We created chances on the run, this time Zachariassen shot, but his bombastic attempt did not find the goal.
In the 81st minute Owusu entered between the two centre-backs, the goalkeeper moved out at the wrong pace, swept our player away and the referee immediately gave him a red card. Ryan Mmaee took the free kick and made no mistake, scoring the third Fradi goal (3-1). In extra time, Owusu's ankle got twisted and was stretchered off the pitch.
Our team won a confident 3-1 victory against their arch-rivals Újpest.
