After a confident 3-0 win against Honvéd, our defending champions and league leaders wanted to continue their "tour" of the capital with another success. In the 28th round of the OTP Bank League, the opponents were the newcomers in the league, but in the last round, Vasas, who also won against Mezőkövesd by three goals, 4-1, in the Illovszky Rudolf Stadion. We have played two games against them this season, winning 1-0 away from home with Kristoffer Zachariassen's goal in Round 6 and playing a draw of 0-0 with them at the Groupama Arena in Round 17. Head coach Stanislav Cherchesov sent the following team to the pitch: Dibusz – Pászka, Knoester, Kovacevic, Civic – Sigér, Gojak – Marquinhos, Tokmac, Traoré – R. Mmaee.
First half
Vasas started the match, but we had the first big chance of the game. In the third minute, Amer Gojak's cross was perfectly placed at the feet of Ryan Mmaee, who fired a shot from 8 meters to the crossbar. Immediately Vasas responded with Hinora threatening from five metres out, but Dibusz made a great save. From the corner, there was no danger as Traoré cut the ball out. In the 12th minute, Malian player flashed in front of the Vasas goal, his left-footed curling shot from outside the 16 was intercepted by a defender and the ball dropped dangerously towards the top right corner, eventually resulting in a corner kick and another corner kick, but neither caused the home side any problems. At the end of the first fifteen minutes, Gojak fired wide with great power, but the ball bounced off a defender for a throw-in. In the 19th minute, Gojak's free-kick from the right was met by Kovacevic, who was long on the right, but his header whizzed over the bar. In the 29th minute, Vasas' Holender was shown a yellow card for kicking Pászka. Immediately afterwards Kovacevic was yellowed for a foul on Berecz. In the 33rd minute, Holender's shot was headed wide by Novothny. At the other end, Sigér had a chance to shoot from distance, but his shot was wide of the target. A minute later the ball was in the path of Tokmac, Gojak, R. Mmaee, and the latter shot over from five. The fireworks didn't stop, Pászka also had a go, but he too got a shot off. In the 42nd minute, Pászka won a ball in the box and set up Tokmac, who passed the ball to Marquinhos. The Brazilian's shot was blocked inside the penalty area, and then Traoré's weak curler was easily saved by Uram.
Second half
In the 55th minute, Pászka made a fool of his man on the right, but his cross was saved by the defenders from Mmaee and Traoré. In the 59th minute, Gojak got a good clearance but missed the target from 3 metres, and was replaced by Owusu immediately afterwards. In the 63rd minute, Marquinhos came on with a great burst, passing well to Owusu, who ran up the left and sent a flick past Botond Baráth before firing over the top with his right foot. This time in the 64th minute Marquinhos shot from 15 meters out in the grip of a defender, the ball hit the crossbar and bounced out. At the end of the counter-attack, Hinora curled a dangerous right-footer, which Dibusz saved with great bravery. During the attack Dávid Sigér was injured and was replaced by Péter Baráth. Ryan Mmaee was also replaced by Krisztián Lisztes. Urblík got a yellow card in the 70th minute and then a Traoré solo led to a corner. In the 74th minute, Hinora fired in a free kick from 24 meters, but Dibusz didn't even have to move from his spot to hold it. Krisztián Lisztes proved to be another great substitute: in the 79th minute he lead the ball in front of him and shot from outside the box (0-1). After the goal Vasas made five substitutions. The home side went all out for an equaliser in the final minutes, but this time they could not find the net either.
With the win, our team still leads the table with a six-point advantage. Next up is an away derby against Újpest on 1 May.
