The 35-time Hungarian men's football champions hosted Swedish champions Malmö in the fifth round of the UEFA Europa League. Our team started with Dibusz - Makreckis, Cissé, Gartenmann, Ramírez - Abu Fani, Maiga - Saldanha, Kady, Traoré - Varga B. Pascal Jansen's side have two wins so far in the UEL and another success could have been a big step towards progression.
There were no complaints about the atmosphere and the attendance this time either.
First half
Saldanha's shot opened the match, but it was not a dangerous attempt, then we headed a to the post, but from offside. We didn't stop, Ramírez shot from distance, which was saved by Friedrich.
Our winger then superbly played out Traore on the left, who crossed to Barnabas Varga in midfield, who was hit by the onrushing goalkeeper inside the penalty area, and we were awarded a penalty. The victim made no mistake (1-0)! In fact, it took only a few minutes for the Hungarian striker to double his tally, this time with a fine trick, shooting with his left foot into the right corner (2-0).
Our striker has now scored five goals in five games in the series, having previously scored two for Dinamo Kiev and one for Tottenham. With this he is the current Top scorer of the competition. In the 16th minute, Malmö also had a penalty, Botheim made it 2-1. The Swedish champions came back to life, Dibusz had to make a great save from Christiansen in the 22nd minute, and the game was clearly more even in the second half of the first 45 minutes. After a long time, in the 41st minute, Saldanha's clever shot was raised by the fans, but the ball missed the right post and it remained 2-1 at the break.
Second half
We started the second half in excellent style, Kady won a ball in the midfield, then didn't even stop until the penalty area, left all his defenders in the lurch and cleverly curled a ball into the right corner (3-1). Six minutes later Malmö could have closed the gap, but Dibusz saved us from a second away goal.In the 62nd minute, Saldanha was replaced by Kristoffer Zachariassen.
n the 70th minute it was again Dibusz's save after a long range attempt, Malmö were putting all their eggs in one basket, they were taking one after the other point kicks towards our goal, from which they threatened several times. In the 73rd minute Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane replaced our third goal scorer Kady. Immediately afterwards, the fourth Fradi goal was scored. After a free kick, our French defender Ibrahim Cissé headed into the Swedish goal (4-1). Barnabas Varga was close to his third goal, but Friedrich was able to keep the ball, which was slowed down by the foot of the defender who blocked the shot. Gábor Szalai, Aleksandar Pesic and Philippe Rommens also came on in the second half, replacing Cisse, Varga and Abu Fani.
There were no more chances, our team scored four goals against Malmo after Dinamo Kiev, and our team scored their third victory in a row in the UEFA Europa League main draw, making us very close to progressing to the next round of the 36-team standings, in 11th place after five rounds. Next up in the series is PAOK at their home on Thursday 12 December at 18.45. We continue next against Ùjpest this Sunday.
