Our defending Hungarian champions hosted Irish side Shamrock Rovers in the first match of the UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round. Our head coach Csaba Máté voted for the starting line-up of Dibusz - Makreckis, S. Mmaee, Cissé, Ramírez - Sigér, Abu Fani - Marquinhos, Zachariassen, Traoré - Varga Barnabás.
First half
The visitors started the match and had the first chance, in the 7th minute they attacked after a good pass, but Dibusz moved out well and saved. Three minutes later, after a corner from the right, Cissé's free-kick was headed towards goal by Burt, but his shot missed the target. In the 13th minute, Hungarian striker Barnabás Varga received a promising pass, but the marker waved him on and he was caught offside.
Fifteen minutes into the game, our newcomer Ramírez, who was introduced into the starting line-up, dribbled down the left wing but the away team's defender was able to intercept in at the last moment. A minute later, Sigér fired the ball back to the Irishman, and although it looked like it would be a dangerous attempt, the ball ended up in the goal (1-0).
In the 25th minute, Sigér found Makreckis, who was playing as a right-back, with a great deep ball and he put the ball through the middle, and Traoré shot, but the Irish defence blocked. We kept the pressure on the visitors, who could only rarely get out of their own penalty area. In the 32nd minute, the returning Ramírez fired into the goal from outside the box (2-0) and the fans immediately started cheering the Ecuadorian.
There were further chances in the first half, but no more goal was scored and we went into the break with a 2-0 lead.
Second half
After the turnaround, we didn't have to wait long for the third FTC goal, Traoré scored in the 47th minute (3-0). In the 49th minute, the visitors made a substitution, Finn came on for Towell. Despite the three-goal lead, the home team did not retreat and found themselves in positions. In the 64th minute, Abu Fani poked the ball under the crossbar, Zachariassen fired straight in but missed the target.
In the 71st minute we made two changes: Marquinhos was replaced by Ben Romdhane and Zachariassen by Lisztes. Three minutes later, Traoré ran down his opponent with amazing speed and the ball was played to Varga, who fired a ruthless shot into the goal (4-0). Moments later, Shamrock Rovers came close to scoring one, but Dibusz blocked after the ball hit the bar.
Seven minutes before the end of normal time, Ben Romdhane's flat shot was saved by Mannus, and moments later Lisztes' bomb was blocked by the visitors. We made another substitution in the final minutes, with Barnabás Varga replaced by Bálint Katona. In the 92nd minute, Katona headed in a Ramírez cross, but Mannus saved.
The return leg of the tie will take place on Thursday 3 August at 21.00 in Tallaght Stadium, Dublin.
