FOUR VARGA GOALS AGAINST MTK
Ferencváros claimed a 5-1 victory over MTK in the Eternal Budapest derby.

After Saturday's victory in Kisvárda, our 34-time champion men's football team hosted MTK in the Groupama Arena on Tuesday evening in the 19th round of the OTP Bank Liga. Dejan Stankovic made several changes to the starting line-up from the weekend, this time our head coach sent our team in the line-up of Ádám Varga - Cissé, Wingo, Ramírez - Zachariassen, Abu Fani, Maiga, Loncar, Marquinhos - Varga Barnabás, Kodro for the first home league game of the year.

First half

In the first minutes, the sides alternated possession, our team made several passes to the opponent's goal, but we failed to create any chances. In the fifth minute the visitors also threatened, but Ennin's cross was saved by Ádám Varga. In the eighth minute, Abu Fani made a run down the left wing and the ball went to Loncar, but his shot was blocked. Maiga fired the rebound into the net from 18 metres out but his attempt went over the bar. In the 16th minute, Marquinhos broke on goal and disappeared inside the penalty area, but the referee and VAR ruled that no foul had been committed. A minute later our cross was cleared by the MTK defenders, but Zachariassen headed towards the goal from the corner and Demjén could only save with extraordinary efforts. Our continuous attacks were not without results, and in the 22nd minute, Barnabás Varga headed into the net (1-0).

In the 29th minute, Barnabás Varga could have scored again, but he shot over the goal from the five-meter line. Three minutes later MTK equalised, Bognár lead the ball on goal and shot into the net from around the box (1-1). Our team continued to attack after the goal and in the 44th minute Barnabás Varga scored a second goal, but after a lengthy review the VAR disallowed the goal. No further goal was scored in the four minutes of extra time and the teams went into the break with a 1-1 draw.

Second half

In the second half, we had to wait until the 52nd minute for the next goal, after Loncar's solo shot with his left foot, the ball bounced in front of Barnabás Varga, who scored (2-1). A minute later, our national team striker scored his third goal today, a hat trick (3-1), and in the 56th minute he increased his goal tally to four (4-1)! Our striker scored this way a classic hat trick within four minutes. Ten minutes later, Loncar received a great ball and his header was cleverly saved by Demjén. However, after the corner kick, the visitors' goalkeeper couldn't stop Loncar from eight meters out (5-1). In the 77th minute, Besic and Dhonata also came, the young defender making his debut in the top flight today. Although we had several more chances in the last ten minutes, no further goals were scored and we ended our first home game of the year with a 5-1 win.

Our next match will be in Debrecen on Saturday 10 February in the 20th round of the championship, before our visit to Olympiacos on Thursday 15 February for away game of the UEFA Conference League.
