We have beaten Paks both times this season in the league. In the first match we won 3-2 at home, and in a postponed away match we won 3-1.
We needed the win because we had only two points in our last four league games, while the home side had won five out of five.
The game started in that spirit, with chances in front of both goals in the first quarter of an hour. First Kristoffer Zachariassen fooled the Paks defence with his tricks and although Marquinhos scored from a pass down the length, the goal was disallowed for a foul. Shortly afterwards the same pair threatened, with the difference that this time the ball was saved from Brazilian winger by the defenders at the last minute.
Dibusz Dénes then had his moment. Our Hungarian national goalkeeper saved first Dániel Böde's and then Barnabás Varga's effort.
In the 23rd minute, the ice was broken and the performance of the duo Marquinhos, Zachariassen finally turned into a goal. Our Brazilian gave a great pass to our Norwegian midfielder, who went one-on-one and calmly lifted it past Gergely Nagy. 0-1!
In the 34th minute, Paks were awarded a penalty for a handball by Myenty Abena. Barnabás Varga's penalty was saved by Dibusz, but the top scorer leading Hungarian striker put the rebound under the crossbar. 1-1!
Until the end of the first half, the game was mostly field play, and in the dying moments Zachariassen could have threatened after Adama Traoré's individual action and pass, but he couldn't tame the ball on the slippery ground and failed to score from the promising opportunity.
Our head coach Stanislav Cherchesov gave the chance to Krisztián Lisztes, who doubled against MOL Fehérvár FC, again at the break.
The second period started with a great Zachariassen goal, followed by a great save by Dibusz after Böde's close range effort.
In the 55th minute Paks had another penalty. Adnan Kovacevic fouled Varga and the referee blew the penalty after a VAR review. This time Varga scored the first time. 2-1!
But Paks could not celebrate for long. Two minutes later, Marquinhos passed to Lisztes, who broke inside the penalty area, his shot was saved by Nagy, but Endre Botka, who came from long range, scored from close range. 2-2!
In the 65th minute, Ferencváros were reduced after Abena received his second yellow card. Despite this, Fradi almost took the lead, but Tokmac Nguent could only stick the ball into Nagy after a quick launching pass.
The worst response came after this Fradi chance. In the 70th minute, Kristóf Papp's long-range shot bounced off a defender, fooled Dibusz and the ball landed in the net from the top post. 3-2!
We tried everything to get the equalizer. We came close in extra time, but after a corner Zachariassen headed the ball into János Szabó. Ferencváros eventually suffered a 3-2 defeat in Paks.
On Saturday, 15 April, we will host Budapest Honvéd at 19.30 in the Groupama Arena.
