After a 1-1 draw against CSZKA 1948 Sofia from Bulgaria and a 3-1 win against NK Istra from Croatia, our men's football team played their third preparation match in the second summer training camp. The opponents were English top-flight West Ham United in Kitzbühel, Tyrol. Our head coach Pascal Jansen opted for a starting line-up of Varga Á. - Makreckis, Cissé, Raul Gustavo, Ramírez - Abu Fani, Maiga, Kehinde - Traoré, Pesics, Owusu.
Our opponents started the match with Fabianski - Kodua, Kilman, Mavropanos, Cresswell - Potts, Orford, Ward-Prowse - Kudus, Cornet, Guilherme. Lukasz Fabianski is a 57-times Polish national team goalkeeper, having previously guarded the net for Arsenal in England. He has also played for his country at the World and European Championships. Ghanaian Mohammed Kudus is valued at €50 million by Transfermarkt. In comparison, Ferencváros's entire squad is valued at €58 million. Brazilian Luis Guilhermé was transferred from Palmeiras for €23 million. Max Kilman was transfered for €47.5 million, while James Ward-Prowse, an 11-time England international, has scored twice for his national team. Aaron Cresswell has previously made three caps for England. Starting on the bench was Emerson Palmieri, who won the 2021 European Championship with the Italian national team, and who has previously won the Champions League and Europa League with Chelsea and is a Conference League winner with West Ham.
First half
The London team in black started the first half of the game. Right at the start of the game, Mavropanos kicked Pesic. Our Serbian striker was left on the ground but fortunately was able to continue the game. In the fourth minute, Ramírez set up Owusu, who dribbled in and the ball ended up going to Kehinde, who rolled the ball wide of the goal. In the 14th minute Pesic was again kicked on the foot. He needed treatment but managed to stay on the pitch. In the 23rd minute the teams took a break for a drink due to the heat. In the 25th minute, Owusu broke through on a Ramírez cross and fired the ball into the net with a beautiful move! 1-0! In the 29th minute West Ham had a free kick but our striker Pesic was able to block it.
A minute later, our opponents were in position again, but Cornet missed the chance. In the 34th minute, Traoré tricked his way inside the penalty area, shot with a nice move but his effort flew over. In the 41st minute we doubled our lead! Makreckis set up Pesic, who was fighting hard and playing very agilely throughout, after a great flick. Our Serbian striker, who doubled his tally against Istra, calmly shot the ball into the net! 2-0! There was no more action at half-time, and we went into the break with a two-goal lead against West Ham United, whose squad is estimated at €463.5 million (£181.7 billion HUF) by Transfermarkt. That is almost eight times the value of our football team.
Second half
West Ham made several substitutions before the restart. Amongst others, Emerson Palmieri, who won the European Championship in 2021 with the Italian national team, previously won the Champions League and Europa League with Chelsea, and the Conference League with West Ham arrived to the pitch. Our team started the second half with an unchanged line-up. In the 48th minute, substitute Danny Ings scored from a free kick. Ings is a three-time England international, having played for Liverpool previously. Eldar Civic and Ben Romdhane also came on in the 58th minute.
In the 61st minute, Kehinde gave a good ball to Traore, who crossed from the right. In the 72nd minute, Traoré flashed again. He darted down the right and crossed into the middle. The onrushing Pesic fired a powerful shot but Foderingham saved. New signing Kady Borges made his debut in the 77th minute. Alongside him, Fortune Bassey and Tóth Alex were both substituted by Pascal Jansen. In the 80th minute Bassey shot from 14 meter but his attempt just missed the goal. In the 83rd minute, 19 year old Zsombort Gruber also came on for our team. Immediately after his introduction, our striker hit the post with his first shot. Unfortunately, Aguerd scored in the last minute and the match ended 2-2.
