Dénes Dibusz was praised by several British and Hungarian newspapers after the 1-0 victory of the Hungarian national team against Northern Ireland on a friendly, preparational match. Not coincidentally: the goalkeeper of Ferencváros contributed to the success in Belfast. We talked to the 20-time national team goalkeeper about his own performance, the match against the Puskás Academy and the World Cup qualifiers of the teammates.
FradiMedia: Did you have the day off on Wednesday night after the national team match tonight - when did you get home from Belfast?
Dénes Dibusz: We arrived at dawn on Wednesday, so we got that day off, it felt good. Our first training with the team was on Thursday, that’s when we got back into the work and now we’re preparing for our game against Puskás Academy with full force.
So you didn’t have a chance to read the Northern Irish newspapers, but probably you’re aware that they were mostly praising you.
I saw a few opinions and titles, that the Hungarian newspapers showed. I’m happy that the local papers also think that my performance was favorable. I had important save and some that fall into the bravura category, I’m glad my work resulted in us being able to win the match.
Immediately after the national team break, an important league game is coming up, since in the case of a victory, the difference between Ferencváros and the currently second-placed Puskás Academy may increase by 10 points. How are you feeling about this match?
Practically, after the last match against Mezőkövesd, we already knew that a fateful championship game was waiting for us after the national team break, as we would visiting our championship table rivals, and in case of a victory we could gain a huge advantage. We are preparing for Sunday’s meeting in the spirit of this. The match against Puskás was already discussed during the national team break, but from now on, the focus has truly shifted to this meeting. We are really looking forward to the match, needless to say, we want to win!
Three footballers who took part in their country's world championship qualifiers could play against Puskás Academy: Samy Mmaee and Ryan Mmaee in Moroccan, and Aissa Laidouni enjoyed the World Cup qualification in Tunisinan colors. Did you follow the results of your teammates?
We also watched their results after the match against the Northern Irish, we were very happy that both national teams were successful in the qualifiers. I think it’s a huge thing that hopefully more of our players will be able to take part in the Qatari World Cup, which will also increase the club’s value. So I think all three of them returned to Fradi with uplifted, extra energy, so everyone can benefit from it.
