Our 34-time reigning men's football champions faced another prestigious opponent in their second training camp on Friday 30 June. Following Tuesday's preparation match against Qarabag, this time we were up against 17-time Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg. Our team started with Dibusz - Botka, S. Mmaee, Cissé, Civic - Esiti, Zachariassen, Abu Fani - Katona, Traoré - Varga B. The meeting was open to the public and the Fradi fans in attendance created a great atmosphere in the Sankt Johanni stadium. Stanislav Cherchesov could not be present due to a minor illness, so our assistant coach, Csaba Máté managed our team.
First half
In the 4th minute the Austrian champions took the lead through Esiti's own goal, and soon after Salzburg went two up through Ratkov's goal. In the 12th minute we started to come back, Barnabas Varga attempted a flat shot but the goalkeeper was alert. Almost immediately Varga was in position again, but this time we couldn't make it better. In the 19th minute, Barnabás Varga was fouled inside the penalty area after a quick free kick, but the referee did not award a penalty. Just a few minutes later the whistle blew, but we only got a free kick, and from a good position. Abu Fani's shot went over the top. In the 24th minute Dibusz had to make a great save. The game became much more evenly balanced and in the 38th minute Kristoffer Zachariassen scored after a counter-attack to take us into the break.
Second half
The second half started with a chance for Krisztián Lisztes, who came on as a substitute for Traoré, but it did not result in a goal. Péter Baráth and Lóránd Pászka also came on for Esiti and Civic. In the 49th minute, Pászka's corner was headed wide by Samy Mmaee, a great situation, but Dibusz had to take a chance at the other end. After that we created several great situations, but there was always a blocking foot for the Austrians. Shortly afterwards Norbert Kaján came on for Botka, while Tosin Kehinde replaced Katona. Myenty Abena was also a fresh force in place of the departing Samy Mmaee. After the initial Fradi attacks, the intensity of the game diminished, with more of the play taking place in the box. Then in the 68th minute Dibusz had to watch out for a bounced ball from Abena, and at the other end Gojak's shot was saved by the goalkeeper, as was Baráth's cross. Meanwhile, we made another change, with Zachariassen being replaced by Owusu Kwabena. Again, the equaliser was close: Lisztes launched Gojak, the ball was put in the middle and Varga set up the newcomer Owusu, whose shot was saved brilliantly by the Austrian goalkeeper. In the 81st minute, Gojak's cross was headed wide by Varga, but the ball was not on target and the Hungarian goliath of the previous season left the pitch, replaced by Alex Tóth. With six minutes of normal time remaining, Murillo's header missed the target. The referee didn't call extra time and we finished 2-1 against Red Bull Salzburg in our second training camp match.
Our last training camp match will be on Monday 3 July against FC Botosani from Romania.
