Our thirty-five-time champion men's football team was back in the OTP Bank League after the national team break, hosting DVTK. Pascal Jansen opted today for the line-up of Dibusz - Makreckis, Botka, Gartenmann, Pászka - Abu Fani, Rommens - Zachariassen, Gruber, Kehinde - Varga Barnabás, so five Hungarian players were in the starting line-up, including Zsombor Gruber, who made his debut for the senior national team against Germany.
First half
In the first minutes of the match, the game was paused due to technical reasons, and the visitors took the lead (0-1) after a counterattack. The first goal for the home side came in the thirteenth minute, when Abu Fani had a clear shot from 18 metres out, but his ball crashed past the right post. Six minutes later, Diósgyőr doubled their lead, again from a counter-attack, this time Huszár scored (0-2). Shortly afterwards, Barnabás Varga was in position, Kehinde's cross came out off Odincov, our national striker got to the rebound but only hit the post. In the 28th minute, Rommens had a free-kick, his attempt was deflected off the line. After the corner kick, Gartenmann shot from the corner of the penalty area, over the goal.
In the second half, Edomwonyi's shot was followed by a corner, the ball was cleared by our defenders, but it bounced to Bényei, who headed wide of Dibusz's goal (0-3). DVTK's third goal was immediately answered by our team, after Abu Fani's cross, Barnabás Varga scored (1-3) bringing our hopes back.
Second half
At the break Pascal Jansen made three substitutions, Gruber by Saldanha, Botka was by Cissé and Pászka was substituted by Ramírez. After the turnaround, our team played with superiority, and the first serious situations were created in the 55th minute, first Zachariassen's shot was met by Odincov, then Kehinde found Saldanha, but our Brazilian striker headed wide of the goal from the five-meter line. In the 66th minute our head coach made another substitution, with Zachariassen replaced by Traoré. Two minutes later we came closer to our opponents, Kehinde dribbled into the penalty area and passed to Rommens, who fired a bomb into the top left corner of the net (2-3).
Two minutes later, our team equalised: Kehinde headed in a Makreckis cross, the ball bounced to Abu Fani and our Israeli midfielder nodded into Odincov's net (3-3). In the 75th minute, Barnabás Varga headed in Abu Fani's cross, but the visitors' goalkeeper poked the ball under the crossbar. A minute later, Pascal Jansen made the last substitution for our team, Maiga came on for Kehinde.
In the 77th minute we almost took the lead, after Makreckis' pass Saldanha headed into the DVTK goal, but he was already on offside at the moment of the pass and the referee disallowed the goal. In the 85th minute, the visitors also got to our goal and almost scored, but Maiga made a last minute save from the goal line. In the 91st minute, we came close to a fourth goal again, but Barnabás Varga headed a corner kick wide of the goal.
No further goals were scored in the dying minutes, as the defending champions set the tone for next Thursday's UEFA Europa League clash against Malmö with a 3-3 draw.
